The project aims to support residents of Southwark with mental health problems to work actively towards their recovery by supporting people into volunteer placements. We aim to support volunteers through creating opportunities to enhance self-esteem and self-confidence as well as to step out into mainstream organisations. There are a variety of placements in a wide range of settings available to increase confidence, skills, social networks and employability.
Not sure what to expect from a voluntary placement? A little confused about what voluntary placements are available to you? These are some of the topics we discusses while enjoying lovely cake and coffee at our monthly coffee mornings.
The Step out coffee mornings are run on the last Friday of every month and you are welcome to come along to them. This is an opportunity for you to find out about the experience other people have had while volunteering and ask them questions.
Not sure what voluntary placement you are interested in doing?
You just want to find out if volunteering is for you before making any commitments?
Then try one of our Dip in days. These are fun voluntary activities which you can attend for a few hours or a day. You do not need to make any long term commitment just give it a go see how you feel and who you meet.
The aim of the Step Out mentoring project is to offer a mentor to those people who may need extra support. The mentor will support the mentee during the process of finding and sustaining a suitable volunteer placement.
A mentor’s role is to support and encourage a mentee during a variety of activities including: exploring and identifying suitable placements along with the mentee, visiting potential placements, attending volunteer taster sessions and the supported volunteering coffee morning.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer mentor for the Step Out project then please contact Emma for further information about the role, recruitment dates and an application form.
If you are interested in coming along to a Dip In Day or the Coffee Morning or would like to have a chat about volunteering then please contact Emma Mallinson or Angela Gallagher.
